May Blizzards !!

3rd May 2015

A day of very strong, storm force winds and blizzards especially above 850 metres. It was one of the most uncomfortable days of the winter !! It feels more like January conditions rather than May.

Although there is a significant volume of snow being transported and accumulating into  wind sheltered locations, the snowpack is generally stabilising quite quickly, mainly due to the generally warmer temperatures at this time of year. Once the storms have stopped, and the weather has calmed down the process of stabilisation will be quite rapid. However during periods of snowfall and strong winds the snowpack does not have the opportunity to stabilise because of the ever changing conditions.
