Gale Force winds

17th March 2018

Another wild day with drifting snow.  Winds over the summits were South-Easterly  70 mph gusting 90 plus.  Feeling chilly with summit temperatures of around minus 10 degrees celsius.   Bright spells between revealed the most stunning scenery.

At 500 metres skinning up the old ski road

A definite snow line, looking out across Rothiemurchus Forest

Snow clad trees

Parts of the Link road are covered beneath deep drifts of firm windslab

At 665 metres looking up the Fiacaill a Choire Chais ridge

The road junction at 570 metres.

    Nice photos, lovely views.
It would be interesting to have a little background somewhere on the SAIS staff around Scotland. I feel I’m getting to know you all, not a prelude to stalking you or any weird online thing. Just a chance for weekend warriors to engage with folk with more interesting jobs.

Thanks Keith it was a wild stunner of a day. Interesting and valid point, I guess were mostly seen scurrying about the hills hidden behind our goggles and gortex.
