Poor visibility

8th December 2021

Stormy conditions eased by the morning.  After a period of high instability overnight the snowpack has started the process of consolidation and improved stability. Persistent weaknesses remain at depth. During travel this could potentially be more hazardous where the snowpack becomes shallower in areas of steep terrain.

A day of poor visibility especially above 800 metres.  Conditions underfoot are hard going, some ridges and wind exposed slopes hold less snow.  Boulder fields are beginning to fill in but the snow is mostly soft making crossings tricky.

Identifying snowpack weaknesses on a NW aspect at 1000m.
