A biting wind with snowfall

4th January 2022

A covering of new snow at all levels.  Summit winds were strong North-Westerly, minus 8C on the tops leading to a high wind chill.  Poor visibility above 900 metres.  Boulder fields present tricky crossing as they begin to fill with soft unconsolidated snow.  Exposed old snow patches are hard and icy.  There’s a widespread cover of new snow on most aspects apart from those exposed to the strong winds.  Unstable accumulations of windslab continue to develop.

Visibility at 800 metres

Flat light conditions with little definition at 1000 metres.

New snow at 350 metres – Glenmore.
