Thawing and Softening

12th April 2022

A dry and overcast day with strong South-Easterly winds. The snowpack is softening at all altitudes and is generally stable.

Snowcover has considerably reduced at lower elevations. Best cover is above 1000 metres.

Spring snow skiing on compacted slopes, soft and sticky off the beaten track.

Softening snowpack becoming increasingly moist, some remaining graupel.

Reducing snow cover looking into the Northern Corries.

Overnight rain will create a period of increased instability on steeper aspects as the snowpack becomes very wet.
