A Winter Scene
10th April 2017
A return to winter today with  a dusting of snow above 900 metres and a bitterly cold, strong North Westerly wind presenting  a strong wind chill effect. Great views and a bracing day.
The return to winter today is a real illustration of how rapidly  the weather and conditions can change from spring to winter in a matter of hours. Old snow fields are now frozen hard and icy with serious run-outs, in the event of a slip, onto rocks and boulders at the base of slopes.  However these areas though can be avoided with good route planning if no winter equipment (ice axe and crampons) is carried.
