Storm Force Winds

16th December 2020

Covid-19

The Scottish Avalanche Information Service would recommend that those wishing to enjoy the winter mountains refer to Mountaineering Scotland and Scottish Government advice regarding Covid-19 and outdoor activities.
A wild day in the Northern Cairngorms with storm force southerly winds accelerating over the plateau. Gusts of 98 mph were recorded on Cairn Gorm summit, and even at 1000 metres it was easy to be taken off ones feet.
This single image was taken to show the wet snow that had fallen overnight. This was at approximately 850m, looking north from Coire an t-Sneachda. Winds are expected to drop a little tomorrow, but it is all relative. Another windy day is expected tomorrow.
