Storm force winds

18th December 2020

Covid-19

The Scottish Avalanche Information Service would recommend that those wishing to enjoy the winter mountains refer to Mountaineering Scotland and Scottish Government advice regarding Covid-19 and outdoor activities.

Heavy rain at all levels during the afternoon, this was accompanied by gale to storm force Southerly winds with gusts of over 90mph.  Highs of plus 4 degrees C on the summit of Cairngorm. Above 900 metres the Cairngorms are still largely covered in snow, this remains deep in places.  Below this level patches remain in hollows and shallow gullies.

Backs to the wind at 600 metres; blowing a hooli from the South!
