Storm force winds

29th December 2021

Storm force South-South-Easterly winds with snowfall above 800 metres.   Old snow patches were firm and icy, new snow drifts were beginning to cover the main path into Coire an t-Sneachda, this combined with drifting snow made navigation tricky above 900 metres.  Clearer conditions arrived by mid afternoon as winds eased and the freezing level rose towards the summits.

Blocks of thawing ice being pushed against the shoreline by the wind. Typical cloud cap over the Cairngorms representing gale to storm force winds.

Deteriorating conditions at 900 metres. Coire an t-Sneachda.
