Settled Day

28th December 2022

The weather was a bit more settled today than yesterday. Overnight the freezing level briefly rose to around summit level. Colder temperature during the day meant an icy crust formed on the surface of the snowpack. These temperature fluctuations have improve stability of the snowpack, but not the quality of the ski touring from what I could see.

Some ducks, a Loch and some mountains. What more do you need for a nice photo?

Coire an Lochan this morning.

Coire an t-Sneachda

Looking across the plateau to Carn Etchcan. There were a few people out ski touring, but conditions were describe as “sub-optimal” by one skier I talked to. Milder conditions overnight have given the snowpack an icy crust.

A walker heading down the Cas Ridge. Although the snow looks quite soft, an icy crust remained on the surface.
