Cold Winds with Poor Visibility.

14th December 2022

At higher levels the bitterly cold North-Westerly wind strengthened through the day. It was strong enough to start redistributing the relatively soft snowpack and depositing it as unstable slab in sheltered locations. Despite some nice wintry sunshine down in the glens the tops held onto the cloud, with very poor visibility at higher levels. Certainly felt like winter today!

Fresh unstable windslab cracking underfoot.

Cold and windy with poor visibility at higher levels. A compass bearing was required to find my way back to the ski area.

Trying to clear up in the afternoon, but the higher tops held onto the cloud.
