A Fine Winters Day – Cold and Windy!

9th January 2023

The snowpack is generally pretty firm and icy with good snow in many places. Some localised areas of moderately bonded windslab is around but these are mostly confined to N – E aspects above 1000m, especially in steeper wind sheltered places and where it gains depth. Keep a look out for these areas. Elsewhere good firm underfoot conditions. Noted some large cornices above NW aspects, beware if you are below these on Tuesday as the freezing level shoots up to 2000m or so from midday; they may be unstable!.
