Cold Temps!

16th January 2023

Todays journey allowed observations on many aspects up to 1100 meters. The current cold temperatures have helped to preserve weaknesses within the snowpack. On low angle terrain there is opportunities for fun skiing and we encountered plenty of people out enjoying the hills.

(Above) Snow cracking under skis showing instabilities in the surface layers, there was also evidence of firm windslab which was formed during the strong winds recently buried under the more current snow accumulations.

(Above) Group ascending towards Cairngorm.

(Above) Looking down the Cas ridge. Poor visibility in the snow showers.
