A dusting of new snow

25th February 2023

A spell of light snow during the night has left a dusting of new snow on all aspects above 600 metres.  It was a day of low cloud with occasional glimpses of sunshine.  Once at higher levels and in the main snow line, underfoot conditions are a mix of firm patchy snow, rime ice and in places a breakable crust.  Steep slopes are firm and icy with serious run out potential into rocks below.

A brief view looking South towards the knoll at Stac an Fharaidh.

Rime ice on this post has developed towards the NNW, this indicates the recent wind direction.
