Drizzle

7th February 2023

It was a relatively calm day in the Cairngorms. The calmness was accompanied with cloud and light drizzle, obscuring the summits, until it cleared later in the day.

The snow firmness was distinctly variable today, with icy patches remaining but also the potential to sink into the softer snow. The icy patches were not always easy to spot, due to the lack of sunlight.

Runs out remain a serious hazard, due to the combination of limited snow cover, a firm snowpack and exposed rocks.

Storm force South-South-Westerly winds are forecast for tomorrow, making any progress in the mountains challenging.

A murky morning in Coire an t-Sneachda.

Variable snow surface, with icy patches remaining.

Any remaining snow bridges were looking thin and prone to collapse. These were best avoided.
