Cold with clearer spells…

8th January 2025

A cold day on the plateau but with some clearer spells. Unstable windslab will persist on North-East through East to South aspects above 900 metres due to the cold temperatures.

We expect some snow showers tomorrow during the day, as the wind increases. The result being some further windslab accumulation on East to South aspects. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Looking into Coire an t-Sneachda from Glenmore. This coire is always exposed to the winds, particularly in a North-Westerly and windslab accumulation will be more isolated here due to cross-loading. Worth comparing with Coire an Lochain (below).

A snowier picture in Coire an Lochain. Again taken from Glenmore.

An t-Aonach ridge seen from Glenmore. Almost Scandinavian in appearance, but don’t be fooled the lack of a base prevents any Scottish tree skiing at the moment.
