Heavy snow showers

25th January 2025

The return of wintry conditions across the Northern Cairngorms followed yesterday’s storms. Snow cover became more widespread above 500m and gaining depth in wind sheltered locations, windward slopes scoured and mostly snow free. A breakable crust has formed from yesterday’s temperature spike followed by the freezing conditions overnight and through today. Some paths and approaches are covered by deep and unconsolidated new snow.

Looking into Coire an Lochain, drifting can be seen at higher levels.

Poor visibility and drifting during one of the heavy snow showers in the afternoon at 1050m.

A group making their way up the Cas ridge which was mostly wind scoured.
