Winter continues.

26th January 2025

Dry cold conditions with fresh to strong Southerly winds.  Drifting snow above 700 metres by the afternoon with soft unstable accumulations of windslab developing in lee North facing areas.  Travel underfoot is a mix of wind scoured ridges and slopes, deep accumulations of soft and firm snow, a breakable crust, some areas are scoured and icy.  Further snowfall is expected during Sunday night with gale force Southerly winds, this will also redistribute lying snow from windward slopes.

Cracking snow indicates weakness in the snowpack.  This was on small North facing steep bank at 800 metres.
