Heavy drifting
18th February 2025
During the early hours there was a period of heavy snowfall which turned more showery through the morning. This led to significant drifting from the plateau, with further windslab accumulations developing in lee area’s. Currently the Cairngorm’s don’t appear to have significant amounts of snow, but due to the prolonged cold temperatures accompanied by drifting, the snowpack remains weak, therefore windslab accumulations can easily be triggered. Cornices are also fragile and these can collapse and trigger slopes below. See avalanche forecast for more details.
