Thaw

20th February 2025

Thaw conditions with heavy rain at all levels on storm force Southerly winds.  As the rain set in during the morning avalanche activity was observed from a gully and crag apron on a Northerly aspect above 1000 metres. Apart from cornice collapse and avalanches, rock and icefall are also a potential hazard. After a drier period tonight heavy rain is expected for most of Friday.

A view a Coire an Lochain during a clear spell this afternoon.

A very soggy view of Coire an t- Sneachda.

Looking North down the W flank of the Cas ridge.

At 800 metres, these cornices developed over the past two days.
