Eat, sleep, repeat…

20th March 2025

Another stunningly beautiful day in the Northern Cairngorms with light South-Westerly winds, another day to stand and stare.

The strong spring sun softened the Southerly slopes giving some good skiing for those travelling on skis or boards.

Sadly the high pressure system which has been dominant is going to give way to strengthening Southerly winds, which will be gale force by early morning and potentially become storm force by the afternoon. The freezing level will remain above the summits and the snow cover will begin to reduce and thaw in the mild temperatures.

Fiacaill buttress, Coire an t-Sneachda. The rime ice clinging to the buttress will fall off in the coming thaw.

Team ‘B’ wing arriving at the summit of Ben Macdui 1309m. There track is clearly visible on the slopes of 1295 behind them. The snowpack has several crust which are sometimes not weight bearing.
