Sgor Gaoith

5th April 2025

Another lovely sunny day for the penultimate day of the SAIS season.  For a bit of a change of scene I  headed up Sgor Gaoith from the Glen Feshie side. This hill gives great views is all directions. I was not the only one to have that idea. I was on the summit for less than half an hour, and at one point there were ten other people there. When heading down I passed another twenty or so people heading up, and back down in the glen the carparks were full. Good to see lots of people out enjoying the great weather, let’s hope it continues.

In some places it was quite frosty overnight. There is not much snow remaining, but what there is frozen overnight. You can see here the water draining from the patch has frozen overnight. In general the snow on sunny aspects soon softened, but on North facing shady locations it remained firm through much of the day.

The gullies of “Tom”, “Dick” and “Harry” on the North West side of Carn Ban Mor. These often check the snow quite well, and can provide a good ski touring terrain. There are some picture here from the Inverness Backcountry Snowsports club of skiing these lines in late April 2021.

Loch Einich and the West side of Braeriach.

The head of Loch Einich with Monadh Mor in the background.

A lone walker stands on the rocky crest and admires the view.

The view West. Creah Meagaidh can be seen on the right. To the left is Aonach Mor (the one with the most amount of snow on it) and Ben Nevis just to it’s left.
