Sunshine

2nd April 2025

It was another glorious day in the Cairngorm’s with mild temperatures and sunshine. However it still felt cold on the tops in the strong to fresh Southerly winds. The visibility was superb with excellent views North to Ben Wyvis and the Moray Coast and West to Creag Meagaidh and Ben Nevis.

There is currently insufficient snow for an avalanche hazard and no avalanche reports will be published until conditions change. These blogs will continue to be published.

Looking across Coire an t-Sneachda to Cairn Toul (1293m) on the left and Braeriach (1296m) on the right.

Loch Etchachan and Ben Macdui (1309m) with Garbh Uisge Mor still holding some snow. There were a few teams heading to Ben Macdui today. Going that way looked appealing, but the photos don’t show the strong Southerly winds which the teams had to walk into on the way there. At least they would have had a strong tail wind for the return journey.

The remaining snow in Coire Domhaim.

Looking south through the Lairig Ghru towards the Pools of Dee and Cairn Toul. Beinn a’Ghlo is visible in the far distance.

Coire an Lochain and The Great Slab.

Marple, one of the Cairngorm Reindeer, enjoying the sunshine. Some of the herd have lost one or both of their antlers, but Marple still has both. Marple was born in 2018, a year in which ‘detectives, inspector and spies’ was the naming theme.
