Firm snowpack
12th December 2025
Although quite windy on the tops, today was a good day to see the general landscape and what snow remains. Cooler temperatures have firmed up the old snowpack; this has developed a weight supporting crust with some serious short run outs on steep slopes.
The Northern Corries.
Fiacaill Buttress and ridge, Coire an Lochain behind.
The Eastern end of Loch Avon, Beinn a Bhuird and Ben Avon in the clouds beyond.
Carn Etchachan, the Shelterstone Crag, Ben Macdui behind.
The Cairngorm Met office and Heriot Watt weather stations.
Looking West, Coire an t- Sneachda in the foreground, the Braeriach massif obscured by cloud.
A flock of Ptarmigan on the East side of Cairngorm.
Beinn Mheadhoin.
