Milder than expected

22nd December 2025

It has been much milder than expected – Cairn Gorm summit recorded a temperature of +2.2 degrees at 11am.  This has inevitably reduced the overall snow cover and despite being generally moist and soft, stability remains good.  Stubborn cloud down to 950 metres, prevented any meaningful big landscape photos.

Cairn Gorm summit cairn from the weather station. A big difference to yesterday’s blog photos.

This was completely rimed up yesterday.

The evidence of the gradual thaw.

Unstable cornices remain a threat from collapse. East aspect, 1100 metres.

Will the snowman last until tomorrow?
