A stormy day

21st January 2026

A stormy day in the Cairngorms, with precipitation falling as snow at higher levels. It was manageable for folk to battle some of their way into the corrie against the gale force SE head wind but these increased to storm force through the afternoon creating a difficult tail wind back out. Stronger winds due over the next 24 hours with further snowfall.

Looking towards the Northern Corries.

A brief bright spell looking North from Coire an t-Sneachda.

At 870 metres looking towards the base of Coire an t-Sneachda.

Making the most of winter conditions at 900 metres.

At 700 metres walking into Coire an t-Sneachda, slushy underfoot in places, with stretches of ice on paths.
