Cold NW airflow continues

3rd January 2026

The day began with views of a stunning “Wolf Moon”, the first Supermoon of 2026. There were clear spells between snow showers at glen levels, but the Cairngorm’s were enveloped in thick low cloud for the duration of the day.  Significant amounts of snow have fallen over the past 24 hours along with very cold temperatures;  low’s of -10 Celsius on the summit of Cairngorm this morning.

8am Wolf Moon over Strathspey.

Very poor visibility with no definition of the terrain ahead.

The air temperature at 1100 metres.

Low cloud at 600 metres.

A heavy snow shower arrives. 500 metres.

Time to close the snow gates and let the plough clear the ski road again.
