Grueling conditions

22nd January 2026

A day of storm force winds, with persistent precipitation falling as snow higher up the hillside.  The fierce winds hindered today’s observations which were kept at lower altitudes in the Ciste area. In this area a few groups managed to make the most of some old snow patches between 500 and 700 metres.

Making the most of a steep bank of snow.

Coniston Mountain Rescue team winter training, heavy wet snowfall at this level (650m).

Looking up Coire na Ciste.

Useful patches of snow at 650 metres.
