New year snowfall

1st January 2026

The start of 2026 is looking more seasonal with snowfall expected over the next few days.  Today has been very cold with snow showers on North-Westerly winds. Lying snow is from glen level upwards, this is more significant at higher levels where drifts are starting to develop in the gale force winds. Today visibility was poor especially during the snow showers, but the images below will give a general impression of how the terrain looks at different levels.

Soft snow drifts starting to develop, this was at 1000 metres.

Looking South up the Cas area, at 800 metres, the path was disappearing beneath drifting snow a bit higher up.

At 750 metres.

600 metres.

Looking down towards Glenmore forest.

At 550 metres.  “Happy New Year!”
