Southerly airstream

10th January 2026

Southerly winds were much stronger than expected with significant drifting.  Although average wind speeds were only 35 to 45 mph these felt much more intense at the Cas car park.  This is often the case with this wind direction as they sweep across the plateau, drop over the Cas Head Wall and down the Cas.  Unfortunately not a lot to see today apart from lots of snow. Very stormy conditions expected over the next 24 hours with significant snow fall.

At 600 metres.

Clouds capping the Cairngorms, these are very typical during stormy South winds.

Not a lot to see above 1000 metres, mainly due to drifting snow. The grey shape to the left is the Cas bull wheel.
