A cold North wind

13th February 2026

Typical conditions from Northerly winds with visibility often poor at higher levels. A few light snow showers, feeling very cold with summit temperatures of minus 9 Celsius first thing.  There’s a thin cover of soft cold snow on many aspects, this was deeper on South facing slopes due to light drifting on a North wind.  Winds expected to increase during Saturday afternoon with a redistribution of lying snow.

At 1100m, where accurate navigation was essential.

It almost cleared, this is looking South from the Southern slopes of Cnap Coire na Spreidhe. Notice the three off piste skiers in the distance.

Snow holes in Ciste Mhearad.

The sun wasn’t far away.

For interest this is a photo of the cornices above Andromeda in Coire an Lochain. Thanks to Andy Cloquet for the photo.

Cloud lifted by mid afternoon, this is Coire an Lochain, seen from Glenmore.
