Drifting at higher levels.

19th February 2026

Another day of gale force Southerly winds in the Cairngorms.  Drifting continued but this was mainly from mid mountain up. Underfoot conditions are a mix of firm scoured snow ice, firm windslab collapsing onto softer snow below or bare ground. Milder temperatures expected during Friday with light rain almost to summit levels during the afternoon.

The Northern end of the Larig Ghru.

Looking up Coire na Ciste Gully.

Dribbles of ice on the Ciste crag.

Some plateau areas at lower altitudes are wind scoured, this was at 700 metres.

Groups making the most of the snow patches at lower altitudes where it was less windy.

Variable snow, some patches very icy or covered with firm windslab.

Looking towards Lurchers gully.
