Milder temperatures

20th February 2026

Milder conditions have arrived as freezing levels rose to the highest summits by midday.  Very windy on the upper mountain with snowfall during the morning above 1100 metres.  Generally the landscape is windblown with firm snow on many aspects, but steep wind sheltered areas still hold deep accumulations of windslab.  Sizeable debris from recent avalanche activity was noted on a Northerly aspect at around 1100 metres.  Cornice collapse will be a potential hazard over the weekend during the milder temperatures.

A glimpse into Coire an Sneachda, gale force SW winds hindered progress at this point.

Calmer conditions at 600 metres with spells of sunshine. Looking up the Ciste area.
