Monochrome…

11th February 2026

Another day of monochrome whiteout in the Northern Cairngorms combined with an energy sapping windspeed! A subtle change in wind direction accompanied by snow will result in more widespread windslab accumulation at higher elevations tomorrow.

Given the sustained and regular South-Easterly flow we have experienced in recent weeks, this slight shift to North-Easterly winds will result in more widespread windslab accumulation due to new snow and redistribution of existing deposits.

Another challenging day in prospect. The Avalanche Hazard will be Considerable.

Another grey and monochrome day limiting the photography. This is a hasty shot of my rucksack, skis and poles – note the snow accumulations around the skis. This was deposited in just a few minutes during the time it took to do my snow profile nearby. Indicative of the steady drift and accumulation of snow in lee areas.
