Sunshine before snow.

4th April 2026

A bright start to the day with frost down to glen levels and strong Westerly winds.  All change during the afternoon with the arrival of Storm Dave bringing with it South-South-Easterly winds and snowfall which turned heavy later in the day.  In the meantime many folk were out enjoying the good weather on ski snow board and foot.

9am this morning Coire and Lochian.

The Cairngorm ski area, with the Cas Head Wall and ridge to the right. .

Shelter from the strong Westerly winds on the East side of Cairngorm, Beinn Mheadhoin beyond.

Ski tourers and a split boarder, enjoy the East side of Cairngorm.

Tourers skin back up the East side of Cairngorm.

Cracking underfoot, on the E side of Cairngorm at 1100m, this is a good indicator of snowpack instabilities.

Looking South across the plateau. The clouds eventually enveloped the Cairngorms as storm Dave arrived later in the afternoon.

In the meantime a busy day on the Cairngorm summit footpath.

Making the most of the good weather before the storm.
