A Changing Situation

The day started with cold clear conditions, rather than the poor visibility experienced for the last couple of days. A good covering of snow exists on all aspects and elevations, and it was nice to be travelling by ski today.
Winds were generally calm except at the highest elevations, where the redistribution of the soft snow started to occur. This will continue overnight and through tomorrow building windslab on North, North-East and East aspects above 900 metres. Older windslab will persist on South and South-East aspects as well.
As the winds become stronger tomorrow the situation will change with lots of drifting above 900 metres. Correspondingly, avalanches are likely where deeper deposits overly existing weaknesses. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Shooting cracks were easy to initiate in new windslab deposits. There were generally close to the surface. However, the weaknesses will be buried by new accumulations overnight and into tomorrow.
Glad to be travelling on skis today.
Looking into Coire an t-Sneachda. There is a widespread blanket of deep snow at the moment, making travel on foot a tough prospect if breaking the trail.
