Drifting snow

2nd December 2025

Fresh snowfall last night accompanied with the brisk winds resulted in a day of drifting snow, especially at higher elevations.  Where exposed to the wind, the ground is now mainly devoid of new snow leaving either bare ground, the old snowpack or ice.  This new snowfall has been redistributed into steep wind sheltered locations, mainly on North-West to North-East aspects above 1000 meters resulting in areas of moderately bonded windslab.  It should be noted that much of the fresh snow has continued to blow down the hill or been ablated.

Looking South-East from Cairn Gorm towards Loch Avon and Beinn Mheadhoin.

Looking South through to Loch Etchachan.

Coire an t-Sneachda.

Spot Height 1141m with the North-East flank of Fiacaill a’Choire Chais catching a lot of the redistributed snow.

Looking back up the Fiacaill a’Choire Chais ridge.  No cornice as such but you can see the line separating the new snow from the old.
