A slow thaw
4th December 2025
Overnight snow loss was obvious this morning, especially at lower elevations. It was a cloudy, breezy and mild day with some afternoon drizzle in the Northern Cairngorms. Sub optimal conditions for photographs of big landscape observations.
Above 1100 metres winter is clinging on but below this height the snowpack is soft making progress tiresome.
Coire an Lochain and Lurcher’s Gully. Cloud base remained at this level all day.
Cairn Gorm Summit wearing its winter hat.
Cairn Gorm weather station – still remaining sub zero.
Looking up into the Mess of Pottage area in thawing conditions.
