Re-Freeze and Storm Henry Arrives
1st February 2016
The extremely volatile weather systems, fluctuating temperatures and storm to hurricane force winds are presenting challenging conditions in the mountains both for travel and certainly for snowpack stability, with purged avalanche activity for periods during the rainfall at summit levels and then potential weak snowpack conditions as temperatures rapidly plummet, wet snowpacks re-freeze and new cold snow forms windslab with some weak layers persisting in the colder temps in localised places. Currently then snowpack is pretty stable in most places as it is getting solid as it refreezes, but more a lot more snow is forecast overnight and tomorrow.
