A day of storm force winds with snowfall above 600 metres. Â A steady thaw continues below this altitude but despite this, areas of deep snow remain in the tree line. Â Rivers are currently in full spate making them difficult to cross. Â A widespread breakable crust has developed and beneath this the snow if soft and deep in places. Â This makes for arduous conditions if traveling on foot.
