Cold and Very Windy

22nd February 2018

Another very cold day, as usual,  uniquely, it is windy again in the Northern Cairngorms – this is due to a temperature inversion, a high pressure system is squeezing the southerly airstream which is below it, between the mountains and the upper air mass, resulting in accelerated winds.

The snowpack is once again solid and icy, the strong winds is scouring snow from somewhere ? and drifting it onto Northerly aspects presenting localised windslab. This though is pretty localised but I expect that accumulations will develop if the wind keeps drifting snow overnight.
