Poor visibility

21st February 2022

Poor visibility above 700 metres during the morning before clearing through the afternoon.  Good snow cover above 600 metres.  Soft and thawing at lower levels but higher up the mountain a firm crust has developed and the boulder fields are filling in with snow and ice.

A rumble was heard in Coire an t-Sneachda around the goat track area this morning, but the visibility was so poor that nothing could be seen to identify cornice collapse or an avalanche.

The clouds rose to above the summits during the afternoon, so if anyone out there managed to see any avalanche debris from today, please follow this link and fill in the data.   https://www.sais.gov.uk/report_avalanche/
