Springy

28th February 2022

Lighter winds with occasional gusts and milder temperatures gave a pleasant sping-like day in Northern Cairngorms. The snowpack has consolidated making walking and skiing easier than of late. Plenty of mountaineers and ski tourers enjoying the mountains and snow. Some unexpected breakable crust was present in places and many steep slopes and crag aprons have serious runouts.

The ski patrol from Cairngorm Mountain were hard at work preparing the pistes and lift lines for the skiers and boarders ahead of the SSSA school ski races. Off piste, the snow conditions gave some very enjoyable spring snow/corn for skiing and boarding.

High pressure is forecast for tomorrow so expect some slightly firmer snow and (fingers crossed) some sunshine, don’t forget your suncream!
