A Dusting of Snow

30th March 2022

A dusting of snow down in the glen brought a wintery feel back to the Strath this morning.  New snow on the mountain was very superficial, but it did make travel on ski more user friendly as the old, very hard snow was covered in a thin layer of fresh.

Looking across Loch Morlich, past a snowy beach to the Northern Corries. Fresh snow cover was very superficial.

Some user friendly skinning conditions on the Cas.  The amount of fresh snow was very limited as can be seen on the left of the photo.

The South-East aspect of Cairngorm.  Photo taken at around 1100m looking across towards Beinn Mheadhoin.  Don’t be fooled, I had to search quite hard to find this small accumulation of fresh windslab, most of the snow in the photo is old, hard neve which looks good with the dusting of fresh on top. This was the site of my snow profile today.  And below, graupel within the thin layer of fresh windslab.
