Spring is in the air

24th March 2022

Another mild day in the Highlands.  The stable snowpack is soft and thawing at all altitudes and is most widespread above 1000 metres; although patchy below, cover is generally good on the high plateau areas. Glide cracks continue to widen especially on sun exposed slopes and during these mild conditions, full depth avalanches can occur at any time mostly where the snowpack overlies steep rocky slab terrain.
