A firm snowpack

28th January 2023

The mild damp spell during Friday night, has left an icy glaze on the firm snowpack. ¬†Widespread patches of snow remain above 800 metres. ¬†At plateau levels travel on ski is very rattly and noisy on descent, even on South facing slopes. There’s a serious run out potential into rocks below on some of the steeper slopes.

A group of ski tourers, prepare to descend a South-East slope on Cairngorm.

A cast of glazed ice covers the Cairngorm summit Tor.
