A firm snowpack

28th January 2023

The mild damp spell during Friday night, has left an icy glaze on the firm snowpack.  Widespread patches of snow remain above 800 metres.  At plateau levels travel on ski is very rattly and noisy on descent, even on South facing slopes. There’s a serious run out potential into rocks below on some of the steeper slopes.

A group of ski tourers, prepare to descend a South-East slope on Cairngorm.

A busy day on the summit of Cairngorm

A cast of glazed ice covers the Cairngorm summit Tor.
