A clear sunny day

3rd April 2023

Today was a clear sunny day with strong Southerly winds. After an overnight frost the freezing level rose to around the highest summits. The snowpack has refrozen and is firm in most locations only softening where exposed to direct sunlight. Photos show the remaining snow cover which is mainly above 1000 metres, in gullies, around corrie back walls and on summit plateau areas.

Looking across to Braeriach, Cairn Toul just visible on the left.

Looking South through the Lairig Ghru, the summit plateau of Breariach on the right, with Cairn Toul behind and Devils point with minimal snow in the distance.

Looking from Cairn Lochan across the top of Coire an t-Sneachda to Cairngorm. West facing aspects hold a lot less snow even at summit plateau level.
