A [surprisingly] calm Coire an t-Sneachda

25th January 2024

Despite the very strong winds, it was remarkably calm in Coire an t-Sneachda today.  The snowpack firmed up overnight at higher elevations making travel somewhat easier than past.  A return to winter once again tomorrow with snow expected down to lower elevations.  Advance warning: there is some uncertainty about the snowfall amounts tomorrow, not just in the Northern Cairngorms but all 6 SAIS areas.  This could affect the avalanche hazard.

A return to icy paths and puddles first thing this morning, softening as the day went on.

Despite the melt/freeze cycles, snow cover remains good in the high North facing coires
