Bands of cloud

10th January 2024

Inversion conditions with variable temperatures at different altitudes.  Minus five at glen level first thing, zero degrees at 600 metres and midday summit temperatures of Minus 3C.

Little change within the snowpack which remains cold, with a widespread crust of varying strength.   Isolated, shallow accumulations of unstable windslab remain at higher levels on NW to NE aspects.

Cool in the Glen with bands of cloud over the Cairngorms.

A glimpse of sunshine above the Cas Headwall.

Shallow accumulations of avoidable windslab. Cracking underfoot indicates snowpack instabilities.

Looking across to Lurchers gully.

A group looking ant like as they head up the Fiachaill of Cas ridge.

The tops of Coire and Lochain shrouded by cloud.
