Cold clear

8th January 2024

Cool and sunny with some light drifting during the morning on Fresh SE winds.  Underfoot conditions are variable due to a widespread crust.  This is firm in most places, friable in others.   New accumulations of soft unstable windslab have developed on NW to NE aspects and although poorly bonded, they are mostly isolated but best avoided.

The Fiachaill Cas ridge

From the Cas ridge looking towards Coire an t-Sneachda.

A friable crust in many places.

Looking down the Cas with distant views of the far North.

Isolated accumulations of windslab sit on a thin softer layer beneath creating instabilities. This was on a NW aspect at 1000 meters.
